The simplest way to test ad creative is to split each ad into three parts, the hook, the body and the call to action, and write several versions of each. Ten hooks, three bodies and one call to action give you 30 ads from one idea. Test the hooks first, because the hook is where people decide to stay or scroll.
Why do you need more ad creatives in 2026?
Because Meta now uses your ads to find your audience. Its ad retrieval system, Andromeda, picks a few thousand relevant ads for each person out of tens of millions of candidates. Meta reported an 8% improvement in ad quality on selected segments when it launched it (Meta, December 2024).
Meta says the focus has shifted “from niche targeting to creative diversification” to find the most relevant audiences (Meta, 2025, quoted by Jon Loomer). The data supports variety: a report by Meta, AppsFlyer and Dentsu covering more than 1.1 million video ads from app companies found that campaigns with a diverse mix of creatives saw up to a 32% improvement in cost per acquisition (2025).

What are the hook, the body and the call to action?
- The hook is the first line of text or the first 3 seconds of video. It tells the right person this ad is for them.
- The body is the middle: the proof, the offer or the demo.
- The call to action is the one step you ask for: call, message, book or buy.
The hook carries the most weight. TikTok found that over 63% of the videos with the highest click through rates showed their key message or product within the first 3 seconds (TikTok for Business, 2020).
How do you build 30 ads from one idea?
Write each part on its own, then combine them. Here’s an example for a dental clinic selling teeth whitening:
- Write 10 hooks, each for a different person or moment: “Wedding in June?”, “Coffee drinkers, this one’s for you.”, “Job interview next week?” Name a situation, never a personal trait. Meta’s ad rules ban copy that implies someone’s health, age or other personal traits.
- Write 3 bodies: a before and after, the price and what’s included, and a 20 second walk through of the visit.
- Write 1 call to action that matches how the clinic books: “Send us a message to book your session.”
- Film each part once. Record all 10 hooks in a row, then edit each hook onto each body.
- Make the hooks truly different: a different person, a different moment, a different first image. Ten versions of the same sentence are one hook.
For text, Meta can do part of the mixing for you. With flexible ad format, one ad can hold up to 10 images or videos, plus up to 5 primary texts and 5 headlines, and Meta’s delivery system decides which combination to show (Jon Loomer, March 2025).

How do you test hooks without wasting budget?
Change one part at a time, starting with the hook:
- Keep the body and the call to action the same while you test hooks.
- Judge video hooks on how many people keep watching past 3 seconds, and text hooks on clicks.
- Once two or three hooks win, test the bodies behind them.
- When results drop, replace the ad with a new hook, not a new color.
Then judge the winners on the result that brings money: calls, messages or sales, not views.

What do we do at 33 Genesis Road?
Every ad idea we launch for a client gets several hooks, each written for one audience, and we test the hooks before anything else. Every ad is still optimized for how the client actually makes money: calls, messages or website sales.
FAQ
How many ads should I test at once?
Meta does not give one number. Start with a few clearly different hooks per ad set, and add more as results come in. Your budget decides how many ads can get enough views to judge.
What is a hook in an ad?
The first line of text or the first 3 seconds of video: the part that tells the right person the ad is for them.
Can I use the same video with different hooks?
Yes. Film the body once, film several hooks, and edit each hook onto the same body.
Does this work for TikTok ads too?
Yes. The same split works on any platform, and TikTok’s own data shows the first 3 seconds matter most.
